A morning routine is an integral part of a productive day.
In fact, how you spend your mornings can make or break your day.
For example, if you wake up in a bad mood, you are more likely to have a bad day.
Your day should, therefore, begin with the right routine that consists of healthy habits.
Developing a healthy morning routine will allow you to take control of your personal as
well as professional life.
However, it’s not easy to start a new routine when you have a morning full of important tasks.
“A healthy morning routine
is critical for your physical
and mental well-being.
It sets the tone for the
rest of your day.”
Here are six tips that will make your mornings more productive and satisfying:
1.Wake up Early
Waking up early is the key to feeling happy and energized for rest of the day.
Try to wake up before sunrise, if possible.
“It is well to be up before daybreak, for such habits contribute to health, wealth, and wisdom,”
said the famous Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle.
Centuries later, however, most people find it difficult to wake up before sunrise.
Implementing this habit is critical for starting a healthy morning routine.
Exposing yourself to the early-morning sunlight offers several health benefits.
It is the easiest and the cheapest way to get vitamin D, popularly known as the sunshine vitamin.
Exposure to the sunlight can stimulate the production of Vitamin D in your skin.
Its deficiency may lead to several health problems such as soft bones, muscle weakness, skeletal
deformities, joint pain, skin diseases, and hair loss, among others.
Research also indicates that sunlight can decrease the risk of melanoma or skin cancer.
2.Rehydrate Your Body
After going 6-8 hours without a drop of water, your body can get extremely dehydrated.
When you wake up, be sure to drink plenty of water to rehydrate yourself.
It also speeds up your metabolism as it cleans the digestive system.
Healthy metabolism is key to a smooth and glowing skin.
Drink about one litre (equivalent to 3 to 4 glasses) of water.
You can start off slowly with just one glass of water and then gradually increase the intake.
This water treatment doesn’t have any side effects.
It will detoxify your body by urging you to pass urine.
Just make sure not to eat or drink anything before or after drinking the water.
3.Early Morning Exercise
Early morning exercise can make you more disciplined and energetic.
It can also help you shake off grogginess and get into the action.
Fortunately, you don’t need to spend an hour in the gym to get your morning dose
of physical activity.
Even a simple exercise such as stretching for a few minutes can do the trick.
However, an intense morning workout can help you burn more calories than afternoon
or evening exercise.
Early morning provides the ideal environment for a heavy workout without distractions.
Grab a bite before you slip into your sports gear as working out on an empty stomach
isn’t great for your metabolism.
Make sure to eat the right per-exercise meal.
Avoid fibre-rich and store-bought food as it can slow down your workout.
It is recommended to eat a banana at least half an hour before a heavy workout.
It can keep nutrient levels high in your body, especially potassium.
4.Yoga and Meditation
If you are an indoors person or aren’t a big fan of an intense workouts, you can do
yoga for a few minutes.
Yoga can unite your body, mind, and breath.
It can also increase your muscle strength, maintain well-balanced metabolism, and
improve blood circulation.
Your morning yoga is incomplete without meditation.
Meditating every morning for a few minutes can have a profound effect on your mind
and body.
It can rejuvenate your nervous system triggering a deep feeling of peacefulness.
Regular meditation can also reduce anxiety, increasing your ability to multitask.
You will also feel more in control and energetic.
5.Eat Healthy Breakfast
Several studies have linked healthy breakfast with lower risk of obesity, diabetes, stroke,
and other chronic diseases.
When you wake up, the blood sugar or glucose level in your body is significantly low.
Your brain and muscles require fuel to function properly.
Breakfast restores the level of blood sugar in your body.
Skipping the a.m. meal will throw off your body’s metabolism.
Though breakfast is the most important meal of the day, avoid eating a heavy one.
It is recommended to eat something light within an hour of waking up.
Apart from jump-starting your metabolism, breakfast can provide you with some vital
nutrients such as protein, calcium, iron, fibre, and a variety of vitamins.
Be sure to eat a home-cooked meal prepared using fresh ingredients.
Include fruits and green leafy vegetables in your breakfast as they have a high content
of minerals and vitamins.
6.Reading
Research shows that people who engage in intellectual activities such as reading are less
likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease compared to those who spend their mornings doing
less stimulating activities.
Reading a book in the morning can keep you motivated and focused for rest of the day.
You can read whatever you like, including blogs, self-development or spiritual books or even
romantic fiction.
Apart from providing mental stimulation, reading expands your vocabulary, improves memory,
and reduces stress.
Make sure to read from a paper as reading on a screen can slow you down by nearly 20-30 percent.
“It is well to be up before
daybreak, for such habits
contribute to health,
wealth, and wisdom.”
Conclusion
A healthy morning routine is critical for your physical and mental well-being.
It sets the tone for the rest of your day.
Your mornings are more likely to become a frantic race to finish the daily chores without a
proper routine.
However, there is no ideal morning routine that suits everyone.
So, you need to experiment with a few healthy habits to know which ones work for you.
The above six tips will help you develop highly-productive morning habits.

I totally agree that a morning routine helps the day go by smoother. I have a routine but it differs depending on the day of the week. Regardless, there is a routine every day. I am hoping to add yoga to my Tuesday/Thursday morning routines. We’ll see how it goes. 🙂
