After nearly two months of holiday parties, dinners, celebrations and vacations–including
a two week cruise and a week in the Bahamas–my body was craving a major change.
So I am kicking off the New Year with at least a month of lighter foods including fresh, organic
juices, smoothies and salads with minimal oil and salt.
I have a glass of warm water with fresh-squeezed lemon juice in the morning.
I follow that with a large green smoothie.
I make enough for two servings–I drink one large mason jar full for breakfast and refrigerate
another jar to drink for lunch.
A large salad of organic greens, avocado and assorted vegetables rounds out the day for dinner.
Fresh fruit fills the bill if I need a little snack.
Plus, I try to drink eight glasses of filtered water daily.
My smoothies vary from day to day depending upon the fresh, organic ingredients I have on hand.
I also like to add hemp seeds and chia seeds for their nutritious benefits.
Plant-based, organic protein powders make a great addition as well.
Here’s the rich, healthy and delicious smoothie I made today.
Avocado Mango Blueberry Super Greens Smoothie
Makes 2 servings
Ingredients
1 ripe organic banana
1 cup fresh organic mango
1 cup fresh organic blueberries
1 cup fresh organic pineapple
1/2 ripe organic avocado
1 cup almond milk
1 cup cold filtered water
4 cups mixed fresh organic super greens ie. kale, spinach, arugula, swiss chard
4 tablespoons hemp hearts or hemp seeds
4 tablespoons chia seeds
Directions
Add fruit, avocado liquids to the blender ( I use a Vita-Mix).
Blend thoroughly.
Next, add hemp and chia seeds and blend again.
Finally, add the greens to the blender and push them down into the liquid blend.
Blend thoroughly until smooth.
Turn off blender.
Taste your smoothie.
Adjust as needed to meet your preferences.
Pour your smoothie into two mason jars.
Drink one immediately and refrigerate the other one for later the same day.
Enjoy!

Hi Deborah,
This smoothie sounds delicious and healthy too. I hope you had a great time on your cruise and had a wonderful holiday season. Thanks for sharing on Real Food Fridays. Pinned & tweeted.
Ooo a cruise sounds lovely lol. I have been drinking protein shakes and working in a variety of whole foods (and doing less of the mock animal products). Thanks for sharing this recipe on my weekly link party!
I must admit I don’t care for avos but in smoothies they are alright and makes it creamy.
This looks delicious! I have never used mango in a smoothie but this has made me want to try it!
This sounds like a tasty combination of flavors to brighten up a winter morning! Yum!
What a fantastic sounding smoothie! You really make the best smoothies. I still have your Good Morning Sunshine smoothie about once a week (or more haha). This sounds like another breakfast winner =)
And thank you so much for sharing this at Healthy Vegan Fridays! I appreciate your contributions and am pinning and sharing this.
I’ve never put avocado in my super food smoothies before, but I keep seeing recipes that are doing it so I’m definitely going to have to try. I love a good green-packed smoothie!
