Oventus Medical Close To Solving Sleep Apnea And Snoring For Good

Even the most stable couples’ relationships can suffer from lack of sleep, or from sleeping in different beds. If you have resorted to spending your nights on the couch, there is good news on the horizon. A medical device being developed by Oventus Medical may finally be the solution to your spouse’s, or your own, snoring problem.

Snoring isn’t just a problem because it keeps your partner up at night. It can also be a sign of a condition called sleep apnea. A person with sleep apnea literally stops breathing for moments at a time while sleeping. Over time, this condition can have serious consequences for long-term health and wellbeing.

“Good News!

the solution to your spouse’s,

or your own, sleep apnea and

snoring problems.”

During sleep apnea, the throat collapses, which decreases the amount of oxygen the person receives while sleeping. If significant enough, it can block a sleeper’s airway for more than ten seconds at a time, which can severely alter a person’s ability to sleep and lead to a host of other health conditions.

An Australian company has been raising funds, and bringing in profits, due to their new medical device that promises to put an end to snoring and sleep disturbances around the globe. The O2Vent Mono device is the first of its kind, and is set to hit the Canadian and American market soon. Clinical trials have begun in Australia with over 40 participants, and the results have been outstanding.

Going full speed ahead, Oventus has already begun building a facility to produce their polymer inserts and packaging, as well as developing an innovative 3-dimensional printing center at CSIRO. This groundbreaking 3D printing process, used to construct the device, is something that is so revolutionary that it may well have far-reaching implications for the entire medical world.

Although the device is fairly simple, extensive testing and research are required before the company can recommend that anyone put something in their mouths while sleeping. Oventus must ensure that it is completely safe, and that there are no potentially unforeseen side effects. Fully customized to an individual’s mouth, the new mouth guard works by using a duckbill in the front. It ensures that the person can get a steady flow of oxygen throughout the night without any interruption. That offers bed mates a better night’s rest, as well as the person who wears the appliance.

The innovative new technology behind the 3D printing process removes any limitation of scale. The device is designed to channel the air all the way to the back of the throat, bypassing any abnormal structures that are likely causing snoring. It can be custom fitted for a specific person, allowing them to maintain a specific jaw position. This prevents airflow from becoming compromised, while also conforming to the shape of the mouth and lips so that the mouth is fully cleared with each breath.

The manufacturer maintains that in studies conducted so far,the device has successfully reduced snoring in over 80 percent of cases. Unlike traditional methods of sleep apnea treatment, like Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and services to change the passage of air, there isn’t a need for a mask or a cumbersome pump.

“Since sleep apnea can lead to stroke, heart

attack, hypertension, or atrial fibrillation,

the option of simply wearing a mouth guard

at night to prevent the harmful side effects

is an amazing step toward the future.”

Although statistics currently indicate that as many as four percent of men and two percent of women suffer from sleep apnea, estimates are that as many as twelve million people in the UShave the condition but have not yet been diagnosed. Without going through the right diagnostic testing, there is no way to differentiate between simple snoring and sleep apnea.

Since sleep apnea can lead to stroke, heart attack, hypertension, or atrial fibrillation, the option of simply wearing a mouth guard at night to prevent the harmful side effects is an amazing step toward the future. Oventus’s new printing system, and the technology to 3D print custom mouthpieces for millions of sleep apnea sufferers around the globe, may be one of the most exciting things ever to hit the sleep dentistry world. If their new device can do what it claims, sleep apnea and snoring may be a thing of the past.
