Getting a good night’s sleep has been a challenge for me for many years.
And I am not alone.
Sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle so it is critically important to make a commitment
to healthy, restorative sleep.
Like eating healthy and exercising, sleeping well is essential to feeling our best during the day.
Sleep affects how we feel, our relationships, our productivity and our overall quality of life.
While we sleep, our brains goes to work, consolidating the day’s learning into memory and
reenergizing the body.
So, in honor of Better Sleep Month, I thought it would be fitting to feature some helpful
information about the health implications of insufficient sleep, as well as tips for sleeping
better on a regular basis.
What is Better Sleep Month?
In 1985, the Better Sleep Council designated May as “Better Sleep Month” to help focus attention
on the importance of sleep in leading a healthy, productive life.
Now their website offers a wealth of information, from sleep FAQs to mattress shopping tips.
The Council’s focus on sleep-related tips — often featuring insights from their latest research —
strives to inform and educate so everyone can get the rest they need.
The Insufficient Sleep Epidemic
As the infographic below illustrates, the Center for Disease Control & Prevention has
proclaimed insufficient sleep a public health epidemic.
8 More Ways to Sleep Tight
Sleep is clearly a major health issue, yet it still isn’t getting the attention it deserves.
As Arianna Huffington stated at Casper’s recent Sleep Symposium:
“Many of us are so used to being tired all the time
that we think that is the new norm.
If you go to Google and type in “Why am I…”
Do you know what is the most common
auto-complete? “Why am I so tired?”
Does her quote resonate with you?
I can certainly relate to that!
So, what else can we do to deal with this critical health issue?
In honor of Better Sleep Month, Casper created these handy “advice cards” below — to help us
get a better night’s rest with more than just their mattresses
Of course, these tips are perfect to apply every day of the year in pursuit of better sleep!
