We all know we should eat better, and yet it remains a challenge. It’s a challenge that many of us struggle with every day, especially when it comes to squeezing more greens into our diet. After all, those potato chips sound so much more delicious than a head of raw broccoli!
Well, the good news is, the more greens you eat, the more you’ll crave them. So, don’t give up on eating better just yet!
Here are three reasons why you should strive to eat more greens. Hopefully these facts will give you a little extra motivation to eat a few veggies every day.
“The more greens you eat,
the more you’ll
crave them.”
Lose Weight
If eating well is hard, losing weight is even harder. If you’re looking to drop a few pounds, personal wellness coaching can help, but so can eating your greens.
Green vegetables are naturally low in calories, and maintaining a low-calorie diet is essential to losing weight. As a matter of fact, leafy greens like spinach and kale, have less than 10 calories per cup!
What they lack in calories, they make up for in nutrients. Green vegetables contain a wide variety of vitamins and minerals that can help keep your energy up while you cut the junk out of your diet.
Boost Your Health
Losing weight is a great way to boost your health because even a few extra pounds can have long-lasting consequences. But, it isn’t the only benefit of eating greens.
There have been countless studies on the health benefits of eating your vegetables. Just a few health benefits include a lower risk of:
- Stroke
- Type 2 diabetes
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Heart disease
- Certain types of cancer
- Kidney stones
Not only can green vegetables lower your risk for developing a wide variety of illnesses and diseases, they can also increase antioxidant levels. Not to mention, people who eat plenty of veggies score higher on cognitive tests.
Good for the Environment
You probably already knew that that green vegetables can help you lose weight and they can boost your health, even if you didn’t realize the extent of their abilities until now. However, this next point may be a bit of a surprise—eating more green vegetables can be better for the environment.
There’s no debating the nutritional value of meat, but it is wreaking havoc on our environment.
It’s estimated that domesticated farm animals, like cows and pigs, release 100 million tons of methane into the environment each year. Consider the fact that methane is 25 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, and you can see how the livestock industry is greatly contributing to global warming. By cutting back on your meat consumption and replacing your meaty treats with green veggies, you’re doing your part to help save the planet.
Adjusting your diet and including more greens can be difficult. Hopefully, it’s a bit easier now that you know all the wonderful ways these amazing foods can change your life and help the environment!

Thank you for the reminder regarding greens.
I do know how good they are for you but I sometimes get lazy.. When I have lots of greens but will be eating out a lot, I make pesto and freeze it. It uses up the greens and I can eat some every day.
My favorite green veggies is turnip and mustard greens.
