First things first, let me tell you a thing or two about the holiday itself.
I know we all think of Shrove Tuesday as the guilt-free pancake devouring holiday
(and practically it is just that) but there are also some things that are quite important
to bear in mind before indulging in that large stack sitting on the table.

What is Shrove Tuesday and How Did Pancakes Get Associated With It?
Shrove Tuesday is the day that precedes Ash Wednesday.
And since the latter is closely associated with Easter (and we all know that the actual
date of Easter changes annually) the date of the pancake holiday also varies.
This year it is the 28th of February that is reserved for delicious stacks of happiness
and a lot of happy faces.
The very name “Shrove” is derived from shrive, absolution for sins by doing penance.
And how do Christians get absolution?
Well by fasting.
Now, this might not sound logical to some, because the very recipe for pancakes calls
for eggs and milk which are not consumed during Lent.
Well, it is precisely because of this that pancakes became associated with this holiday.
People needed a way to make use of the fatty foods before the 40 days of fasting (Lent)
and pancake recipes allowed just that!
