My friends and family often make comments about how large my salads are.
I just smile and say “Salads are good for you” and keep on chewing!
Flavorful, crunchy, multi-textured salads are probably my favorite food.
I eat them every day.
I love to make all kinds of healthy, nutritious salads, and I often make very big ones.
But, despite the fact that I eat a lot of fresh vegetables, fruits and salads, I am not necessarily
skinny.
I have been thin and I have gained weight many times in my life.
Weight loss has been a mystery to me–as it is for many of us.
Apparently, there is much more to weight loss than just randomly eating salads.
I needed to learn a lot more about how to eat well and optimize weight loss.
So when best selling author, health educator, and developer of the Body Type System
of Weight Loss, Dr. Eric Berg offered to share his insightful video, “How Much Salad
Should I Eat To Lose Weight?” with us, I was delighted to view it.
Dr. Berg, DC, is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional and
natural methods.
His private practice is located in Alexandria, Virginia.
He has spent over 25 years working with 35,000 people.
I was interested in learning more about his weight loss philosophy because his motto is:
“You don’t need
to lose weight.
First you need
to be healthy.”
Dr. Berg is the author of “The 7 Principles of Fat Burning“, published by KB Publishing
in January 2011.
In addition, Eric Berg is widely published in trade magazines, including Chiropractic Today and
The American Chiropractor, and in consumer publications such as First for Women, Men’s Exercise,
New Beauty, Upscale and Let’s Live.
Dr. Berg trains chiropractors, physicians and allied healthcare practitioners in his methods, and
to date he has trained over 2,000 healthcare professionals.
In his enlightening video, Dr. Eric Berg talks about the importance of making salads with
high density, nutritent-rich vegetables.
He emphasizes the value of including the right kinds of salads in our diets as well as how
much potassium is needed by our bodies on a daily basis.
He notes that salads with fats can allow the fat-soluble vitamins to be extracted and that
most people do not even come close to the quantity needed.
In fact, he feels that a person needs 7-10 cups or ounces per day.
Salads aid weight loss by providing potassium to turn off sugar cravings.
They also are required to get healthy to be able to lose weight.
Potassium is also necessary for processing proteins.
But there is so much more to this topic than meets the eye.
I’ve always believed that “knowlege is power” so check out Dr. Berg’s video to see for yourself.

I have a salad at least 3 times a week for lunch. Although, living in NYC sometimes and buying a salad vs sometimes bringing it from home can be tricky as restaurants/deli’s tend to drench it in salad dressing and you of course have to be careful with the types of toppings you get. weight loss has been an issue for me for a long time. I have finally realized that a combination of regular exercise and minimizing my carb intake (not fully removing it completely) works best for me. thanks for sharing this video
Hi Cassandre,
Weight loss is an issue for many of us. I’m glad you found that regular exercise and minimizing carbs works for you. That’s great! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us. I appreciate it.
I eat a bowl of salad every day! I use a wide variety of fresh greens, veggies and herbs and rotate things around to give all veggies a turn. I tend to use plant based proteins like quinoa and beans. Not all salads are created equal though. Some people eat huge bowls heaped with chicken, ranch dressings, eggs and bacon and call it a healthy salad. It might be healthier than eating a steak, but one can’t lose weight on that. Some salads provide 600-800 calories.
When I need to lose weight, I just concentrate on burning more calories than I consume. I always keep in mind my grandma’s famous saying, “nobody was fat in a concentration camp.”
Hi Eva,
I love your Grandma’s saying! It makes so much sense. We often overeat and drench our salads in high calorie dressings and toppings and wonder why we are gaining weight. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I appreciate it.
I eat at least one salad for lunch or dinner everyday. Sometimes both. Great info. Thanks for sharing with the fitfam.
Hi Jill,
I’m glad to hear that you eat one or more salads a day. I too love salads and try to eat them daily. I never get tired of them.
Thanks Deborah. Great video from Dr. Berg, with a few exceptions for me. I prefer to add olives, avocado, and tofu. Much healthier choices as a topping for salads than bacon or cheese. Warm regards, Nancy A@obloggernewbie.blogspot.com
Excellent article and very informative content and videos. I nominated it as featured article for next week’s Wake Up Wednesday where I’m a co-host. Congrats!! I love salads, thankfully. I am not shy about eating a hefty salad either. It’s a better option than some of the things I could reach for.
Please swing by my blog and say hello while there. I will also connect with you on social media. Nice to meet you and look forward to learning more from your. http://www.relaxedthairapy.com
