Houston Museum of Natural Science

The Houston Scientific Society established the Houston Museum of Natural Science in 1909 as an institution where the residents of Houston could learn about science. The establishment boasts the Cockrell Butterfly Center, Wortham Giant Screen Theater, and Burke Baker Planetarium. In addition, it has permanent exhibits that cover the subjects of science, astronomy, Native Americans, and Texas wildlife. The establishment is located on the northern border of Herman Park in Houston, Texas.
The Alamo Mission
Catholic missionaries established the Alamo Mission and other San Antonio missions in the early 1700s near the San Antonio River. The Spanish missionary used the establishment to teach the locals about the Spanish ways of life, including Christianity. By the end of the 18th century, the mission had changed to become a base for Spanish soldiers during Mexico’s struggle for independence. A number of Texan defense forces died during the Texas uprising while shielding the Alamos from the Mexican troops. Currently, the mission is a National Historic Landmark situated in the middle of downtown San Antonio.
