NCBD for Dogs - What are the Benefits?

Anxiety and Stress

You’d be surprised how common pooch anxiety can actually be. But while no one really tallies the numbers, experts rest the estimate at around 30 to 40% of the pup population. Specific types of anxiety-like associated with the pet’s separation from its owner – account for about 40% of cases.

Anxiety in a dog can manifest itself in loud, disruptive, and inconvenient ways. In some cases, an anxious dog may even resort to destruction and violent behavior, making it exceedingly important for owners to make sure their pups are calm and collected in the face of unfamiliar situations.

Presently, the studies surrounding the benefits of CBD for pups are relatively shallow. But there are some publications that assert that CBD may get a pooch calm down, helping to manage stress and anxiety so they can cope with situations and circumstances that are known to trigger anxious behavior. Pain and Arthritis

What could be more heart-wrenching than watching your pup struggle with the symptoms of old age? As dogs get older, they become far more prone to the various types of conditions that impact their musculoskeletal system. And as the pain settles in, they move less, rest more, and basically lose that puppy glee that used to fill their being.

According to studies, about 1 in 5 dogs suffer from arthritis. For older dogs, the ratio shoots up to 1 in every 2. And while the studies on the effects of CBD for arthritic dogs are still pretty shallow, anecdotal sources have expressed the efficacy of the substance in subduing a pet’s pain.

In the same way, CBD infused pet treats can also be used to help minimize the discomfort of injury and other sources of pain. So, if your pup recently went through surgery or if they broke a bone, then a CBD treat would be a smart way to soothe the stress.

Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders

Yup, it’s true. Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorder observed in domesticated dogs, occurring in about 3% of the entire population. In about 80% of these cases, the causative factor remains unknown. So, for pet owners, that means exercising whatever is available to manage the symptoms.

A very small study conducted on dogs with seizure disorders found that CBD could actually help reduce the frequency of episodes. In fact, up to 89% of dogs suffering from epilepsy and other seizure disorders can significantly benefit from the use of CBD in both the form of treats and oils.

Cancer

We all know that cannabis has long been used in the treatment and management of cancer and its related symptoms. Thus, the term ‘medical marijuana.’ But beyond the human market, CBD has also found substantial popularity in the management of cancer symptoms in dogs.

While the studies are limited, many of the published research articles that talk about cancer treatment in dogs have found that CBD may mitigate the various symptoms associated with the condition. These include nausea, pain, and lack of appetite, to name a few.

But don’t just take our word for it. Every case is different. Make sure to consult your pet’s vet before adding any new supplements to his diet, especially if you’re seeking to target a specific medical condition.

Is CBD Safe for Dogs?

According to the American Kennel Club, there’s little evidence that suggests that CBD might be harmful to dogs. That said, it does come with a few minor side-effects. Dry-mouth, lowered blood pressure, and drowsiness are some of the most common reactions that dogs might manifest after the use of CBD. Nonetheless, the potential benefits can easily outweigh these minor negatives, so it’s always worth a shot to ask your vet for their opinion regarding the benefits of CBD for your pooch.
