How to get through drug detox can be a trying experience for many people who are newly addicted or have been using drugs for some time. The reason this can be such a challenging and trying time is the fact that withdrawal symptoms are very real and intense. These symptoms make it difficult to sleep, eat, socialize or just live normally. Understanding how to get through this period is absolutely necessary if you want to get the best out of your drug addiction treatment.

There are two main ways that a person can go about getting through drug detox.

Inpatient Care and Outpatient Care for Drug Detox

1. Inpatient Care

The first way to do this is to go through inpatient care. This is where your medical professional will do all of the work in terms of setting up an addiction treatment plan. Professionals at will help set up an effective treatment program. They will also be there to monitor your progress. This is often the best way for someone who is starting out because they already have the support system in place and know what to expect.

This will require you to stay at a hospital for the duration of your stay. During this time, you will be closely monitored by doctors and nurses. At some point during your stay, you will likely be allowed to leave the hospital but you will not be released until you have been fully treated and your withdrawal symptoms have disappeared. Since this is a long-term commitment, many people do not want to make this choice. However, if you are properly prepared, inpatient treatment can help you get through drug detox.

Inpatient Care and Outpatient Care for Drug Detox

2. Outpatient Care

The other way to go about getting through addiction treatment is to stay at home. There are some people who have this misconception that the more time they spend in treatment, the better their chance of being successful. It is true that there are many success stories when it comes to inpatient care but the majority of people who complete inpatient care are never given the chance to go home.

This is a critical mistake. If you have completed inpatient care and are now ready for outpatient treatment, then you should start to take a few days off of work. It is best to keep a few days of housework off during this time. The reason for this is so that your body will not become overwhelmed with all of the different medications you will need to take on a daily basis while in treatment. Taking time away from work will also help your recovery because it will allow you to recover mentally.

One of the first things you must do when you enter into treatment is to learn as much as you can about drug detox. There are many different types and you should be able to gather enough information about them to formulate your own opinions about each one. The important thing to remember about each detox type is that it is something different. There is no “one size fits all” approach to addiction treatment. As you dig deeper and learn more about each method of treatment, you will see which one will be best for you.

One of the most common types of treatment is residential. This means that you will be staying at a specific location for the duration of your treatment. This is usually a hotel or a rehab center. During this time, you will be subject to very strict limitations as to what you can do. You will need to stay away from other people and you will be asked to follow all of the rules given to you by the staff at the detox facility.

If you are a person who does not want to go to the hospital or a residential facility, you can try outpatient treatment. This type of treatment does not require you to stay in a facility. Instead, you go see a psychiatrist or psychologist in your local area. You will go through one on one therapy sessions and you will be allowed to withdraw from the mediation at any time. The withdrawal symptoms will be handled by your psychiatrist or psychologist and you will be slowly weaned off of the drugs. This type of treatment is best for people who need to handle the withdrawal symptoms and for people who are not strong enough to enter a facility.
