Essential Oils began to gain ground again around 2005 after a decline through the Nineties and have been going strong ever since.  However, what makes so special?  What is it that keeps drawing people back to them, even after decades of lost interest and a reputation as having been “Hippy Oils”?

The answer comes in three parts.  Health, mental wellness, and cooking are all reasons that these oils have managed to hold on to at least a small portion of the population, even with so many interesting events surrounding them.  Whether they are being used for aromatherapy, their most common use, or healing, or even being to give it a special flair, these oils are great.

Essential Oils are Gaining Ground: 8 Reasons You Need to Check Them Out

In fact, we’re so sure that these oils are needed in your life that we’ve put together a great list of reasons that you really ought to consider keeping them around.  Some reasons should be pretty obvious, while a few of them just might surprise you.  Read the list below to find out.

“Whether they are being used for

aromatherapy, their most common use,

or healing, or even being added to

a dish to give it a special flair,

essential oils are great.”

1.Essential Oils Offer Stress Relief

This is one of the most common uses for essential oils, and likely the most effective for many people.  Sure, not everyone is relaxed by the scent of lavender, but you can be sure there is another oil out there that will help if lavender does not.  For example, some people find the same effect with vanilla, or lemon, or even tea tree.

2.Healing with Essential Oils is Easy

Many homeopathic physicians are suggesting essential oils for the healing process of injuries.  While it is still looked at a bit sideways by society overall, there is no denying the fact that many essential oils help to speed up the healing process in one way or another.

3.Essential Oils are Great for Cooking

This one even surprised us, though we’re used to using a lot of these oils in cooking every day and didn’t even realize it.  For example, fruit has essential oils in it.  Orange zest has essential oils, as do lemon zest, lime zest, and more.  This is due to the oils in the rind of the fruit, which is precisely where the essential oils come from.

4.Body Aches Can be Helped with Essential Oils

No, essential oils are not pain killers.  However, many kinds such as wintergreen or peppermint can act as cooling agents that help to ease aches associated with muscle strain and fatigue.  Be sure to check into the essential oil you choose to try, as some have constituents that conflict with pain relief and you want to avoid that for the best outcome.

5.Essential Oils are Reasonably Priced and They Last

Because these oils are “concentrated”, they last quite a while.  This, added to the reasonable pricing that can be found, makes them very desirable no matter their intended use.

6.Essential Oils Work Great as Air Fresheners

Sure, you could go to a convenience store and grab a can of Glade to spray through the house, but the resulting chemical effect will never compare to essential oils.  And yes, we realize that there are oil warmers on the market, but these too are not the same as essential oils, which offer a natural option that really does work great.

7.Essential Oils Can Help in Your Laundry

Here’s an unexpected twist.  Try a few drops of essential oils in your wash cycle.  While, yes, high heat does break down the effects of essential oils over time, your clothes will still come out with a bit of your desired aroma.  Be sure to check any allergies, however, as you don’t want your daughter or son reacting if they are allergic (though we doubt you’d have the oils they are allergic to as that would make no sense).

8.Essential Oils are Quite Varied

While you may only think of Patchouli or Sandalwood (a favorite of many), there are far more essential oils for you to choose from.  With everything from Bergamot to Juniper and beyond, you can select the oils that are best for you and your needs.
