Contrary to popular belief hemp and marijuana are both cannabis plants, originating from the cannabis sativa-L plant and to prove the point, the newest trend in hemp CBD products is smokable hemp flower. Smokable hemp flower, similar to the hemp flower by Diesel Hemp, is basically marijuana with little THC. Hemp, by definition, contains less than .3% total THC, other than that, hemp can have as many other cannabinoids including CBD, CBG, CBC and even THCv, which is not considered THC.
Certain strains of hemp can even smell and taste like a marijuana strain because they have the same cannabis terpene profile and as long as the hemp flower contains less than .3% total THC, the smokable flower is still considered hemp. How is this possible? Breeding… Breeders can take two similar cannabis plants, cross them, by pollinating one plant with the other, and then do selective phenotype hunting, which is picking the plants the have the correct CBD:THC ratio and terpene profile.
Certain companies, such as Diesel Hemp, are breeding hemp genetics to look and smell like marijuana for the cannabis terpene profiles. There are multiple reasons a company would breed hemp to smell and taste like marijuana. First, there are many marijuana strains that are popular strictly because of the cannabis terpene profiles, the taste and smell of the cannabis flower. Second, certain marijuana strains have medicinal value because of the cannabis terpene profile and how they interact with the other cannabinoids. Third, not all people want to get “high” from marijuana but still enjoy smoking cannabis. Hemp flower can provide relaxing feelings and not get you high.
Many people refer to cannabis when referring to marijuana, but they do not realize that hemp flower and marijuana flower come from the cannabis sativa plant. When people think about hemp, they think about textiles and fibers. People do not think about hemp as something that is smokable or being used for hemp pre rolls, hemp cigarettes or CBD concentrates which are hemp extracts that have very high levels of CBD and cannabis terpenes, which are vaporized using high levels of heat.
Hemp has come a long way from being used rope and textiles. Hemp was actually legal to grow before the 1930s and was heavily used during times of war. Nowadays, you can not tell the difference between hemp and marijuana, unless you test it by sending it to a lab or smoking the hemp flower to see if it gets you high. Certain states have changed their laws, stating that officers do not have probable cause to search a home or vehicle because of the smell of cannabis. The US mail now allows hemp flower to be shipped all over the USA. Companies are selling hemp flower and CBD concentratesX, made from hemp online.
So, hemp is in fact cannabis and the newest hemp products being sold are exactly the same as marijuana products but contain very little THC.
