As a country, India has often been described as intoxicating, daunting and overwhelming. With so much to see, do and explore, it’s perhaps no wonder why so many British travelers who visit end up staying there for the long haul. But, if this is something you’re considering, how is it possible? In this post, we take a look at why you should stay in India for the long haul, as well as how it’s possible.

Pick the Perfect Route
As a country, India is vast. So, if you’re looking to see as much of it as possible, then you’ll need to plan meticulously. Even if you’re there for the long haul, you need to be realistic about how much you can fit in, and it’s very hard to see the whole country.
Fortunately, internal flights aren’t too costly, and they are numerous, so you don’t have to focus your trip in only one area.
As a starting point, consider the ‘golden triangle’ of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. This way you get to see three of India’s top destinations. Then you could head to Mumbai for some much needed R and R on fabulous beaches, or Rajasthan to experience wildlife. The world’s your oyster, and you can spend as much or as little time in each place as you wish.
Do try to remember that seeing one place slowly can be highly rewarding, so concentrate on as few places as possible rather than trying to tick things off your list quickly.
Earn a Bit of Cash
If you’re staying in India for the long haul, then it’s worth considering if you can do a bit of work while you’re out there to help fund your trip. Making money while travelling can be straightforward, as long as you have either a laptop or access to an internet café.
On sites like TakeLessons, you can teach somebody anything (no matter what your skill), or you can use Upwork to freelance. Lastly, why not try Fiverr, where people will pay you $5 to do just about anything… even to split up with their girlfriend for them!
Remember Loved Ones
Finally, if you’re going to be away for an extended period, remember your family and loved ones. Sending mementos and presents home doesn’t have to be expensive, and if it’s your birthday or Christmas, they can send a parcel to India inexpensively too.
So why not consider staying in India for the long haul? With so much to see, do and experience, you’d be crazy not to.

Great article but there are so many great areas in India with cool things to do outside of the tourist traps (Agra and Goa) Areas like Tamil Nadu are way less popular with tourists, have amazing jungles, not to mention the jungle beach resorts in the state of Kerala. Kind of gets you the feel of local areas and seeing villages and hill stations that the masses of tourists never see.
Hi Amber,
I am so happy that you have shared some of the other areas in India that are must-sees. It sounds like you had a wonderful time in India. I hope to visit one day as well.
