Knowing what to wear to sporting events can be a challenge. You want to look good to see others and pose for photo ops, but you don’t want to be over dressed for a casual event. There are several factors that go into selecting the right outfits for sporting events.
Weather
The weather may be a big deciding factor in what you should wear to sporting events. Of course, this depends on the sport. For outdoor events, such as football or soccer, you’ll want to dress appropriately for the temperature and other weather conditions. You may need warmer or cooler clothes, a raincoat or umbrella, a hat or sunglasses or a winter coat and hand warmers. One of the best things you can do is dress in layers. That way you can stay nice and warm but easily shed some clothes if you get overheated. For sunny days, you should wear sunblock to outdoor sporting events to limit UV exposure and risk of sunburns.
Indoor events, such as basketball, require a lot less planning when it comes to the weather. However, you’ll want to plan for long walks from parking lots to arenas and waiting in long lines outside. Also, keep in mind that the heat or air conditioning inside may be outside of your comfortable temperature range. Again, layers can be a big help here.
Team Spirit
You can never go wrong with team colors or logos. For example, if you’re going to a Buckeyes game, Ohio State athleisure and apparel is always an appropriate choice. The vast variety of team spirit apparel on the market makes it easy to find something that fits any style. There are casual pieces like shorts and t-shirts or accessories like scarves and jewelry to dress up an outfit.
What Others are Wearing
Some fanbases have unofficial dress codes. For example, at some colleges, female students will wear dresses or nice outfits to football games. Other schools are more casual, and a dress would stick out like a sore thumb. If you aren’t familiar with the customs of a particular team, look at their tagged photos on social media. People will often take photos at events and tag the team, allowing you to see what others have worn to games.
Comfort
Sporting events aren’t always known for their comfort. You may be standing for long periods of time or sitting on uncomfortable bleachers. Not to mention arriving hours before an event to get a seat or standing in long lines to get in. Wear clothes that you’ll be comfortable in for the majority of the day, including comfortable shoes. The last thing you want is sore feet when you still have half a ballgame left and can’t sit down.
When picking out the perfect outfit for attending a sporting event, remember to consider weather, team spirit, what others are wearing and comfort. If you make a decision based on these factors you’ll look good, feel great and be able to get some amazing photos.
