Shopping for organic products may appear to cost more, but there are savings to be had if you
make a shopping plan and stick with it.
Make a list.
Of course, creating and then sticking to a shopping list is a smart way to save.
Don’t veer away from that piece of paper!
Watch out for special displays set up at the ends of aisles and near the checkout counter.
These hot spots are arranged to slow you down so you take a look and touch (and the more time
you spend with an item, the greater the chance you’ll buy it).
Go cart-less.
If you’re only going to pick up a few items, choose a hand basket rather than a large cart.
A bigger bin for shopping may tempt you to fill it with things you don’t necessarily need.
Substitute with DIY options.
Some items are important to buy in-store, but that doesn’t mean you can’t create a few of
your must-haves at home.
Making your own can help you save as well as the assurance that the product you’ve made
contains only natural ingredients.
Here are 4 products you can make at home for just a fraction of what they’d cost
in a store.
1. Bug spray
No more mosquito bites!
Combine equal parts distilled water witch hazel and then add 30 drops of essential oil
(lemon, rosemary, eucalyptus) for a sweeter smell.
2. Stain remover
Nix nasty marks on clothes by adding together one part hydrogen peroxide, one part
baking soda and two parts water and then pour it into a spray bottle.
3. Window cleaner
For the brightest glass, without any streaks, combine 1 cup of rubbing alcohol with 1 cup
of water and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar.
4. Eye makeup remover
This quick fix will remove even the toughest mascara.
Mix together 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and ½ teaspoon of baby shampoo with 1 cup of water.
