There are an abundance of lodging options in Nashville, Tennessee, if you’re planning a trip. There are high- and lower-end hotels, Airbnb’s, and more. One of the standout places to stay in Nashville, however, is the Gaylord Opryland Resort. This hotel is like a massive, sprawling compound with something for everyone and all age groups.
Nearly everything you could need or want is onsite, although of course, you might want to get out and explore Nashville as well.
If you get the opportunity to stay in this beautiful hotel but you’re overwhelmed while you’re there, you’re going to miss some of the outstanding things it has to offer.
The following are some key points to keep in mind about the Opryland Hotel.
The Size
This hotel is massive. If you’re looking for a boutique experience, look elsewhere.
The Opryland Hotel has more than 700,000 square feet of just meeting space.
It’s an event and convention center as well, so you’re almost guaranteed to see a lot of people and a lot of activity going on, any time you visit.
There are more than 2,800 rooms, but you may be surprised they’re all often sold out, so book ahead.
There are 86 event rooms, the Ryman Exhibit Hall, six ballrooms, and more than 15 restaurants and lounges all on-site.
The Rooms
Of the 2,800 rooms, around 2,700 are standard guest rooms, and there are around 170 suites.
There are different configurations available.
For example, some of the one-room suites include a king or two queens, and you may have an outside view, or a view of the interior atrium, which is beautiful.
There are two-room suites that have a parlor room, and upgraded suites are the largest options with a dedicated living space and a dining table.
There are differently themed wings of the hotel, and the wing your room is in reflects the décor theme. For example, there is a wing of the hotel that’s designed with an eye toward Southern plantations, while another is French Quarter style.
Soundwaves
The Opryland Hotel recently completed a big project, which was the addition of a full-scale waterpark. Called Soundwaves, it’s billed as an upscale water attraction.
The outdoor portion of SoundWaves is open seasonally, and it includes slides, a kids’ play structure, and a wave pool.
Keeping in with the concept of Nashville as “Music City,” SoundWaves brings together music and the water. There are different music zones throughout the park, and there’s live music on the weekends in the summer.
For year-round fun, there’s an indoor waterpark that’s part of Soundwaves as well. It features a modern design, and it’s kept at 84 degrees.
In addition to Soundwaves, there are two outdoor pools at the hotel. There’s also an indoor pool.
The Location and Getting Around
If you want to stay near the heart of Nashville, the Opryland may not be the right option for you. You would have to drive to reach downtown and Broadway. If you are going to rent a car, or you’re driving to the hotel, you also have to pay for parking.
The price for self-parking is $29 a day, and it’s $38 a day for valet.
There is a shuttle from the hotel to the airport if you don’t want to rent a car.
While you’re not near the honky-tonks of Broadway, the hotel is within walking distance of the Grand Ole Opry, and the Opry Mills shopping complex.
Dining
There are so many dining options within the Opryland complex that you never have to leave to find a restaurant. Most of the dining options are casual and family-friendly, as well.
There are sports bars, American-style cafes, Jack Daniel’s which features Southern-fare, Findley’s which serves different craft beers, and the Old Hickory Steakhouse, which is the most high-end option in the hotel.
The Spa
There is an onsite spa at the Opryland, which is called the Relache Spa. It’s a facility spanning 20,000 square feet, with a European theme.
There are services including massages, facials, body scrubs, and more. They also have kids’ services.
Family-Friendly Options
Finally, the Opryland Hotel is very family friendly in general. There are kids’ menus in the restaurants, and there are an arcade and an indoor delta boat road the entire family can enjoy.
During the holiday season, there is something called “A Country Christmas” at the hotel, which features ICE, a display of twinkling lights and beautiful holiday decorations. There really is something for all ages at this Nashville gem.
