It’s no secret that the environment is in trouble. Global warming is becoming an increasing concern, as the world tries to desperately reduce its carbon emissions. However, over the years, experts have managed to develop technology which is helping to not only save the environment, but also save you money too.
So, how exactly is tech helping the environment and saving you money? Below, we’ll look at some of the main technological developments and how they’re helping with the environmental crisis.

Driverless cars have been in development for years now and although they’re still a long way off being ready for mainstream use, they are set to significantly help the environment. The fuel emissions from vehicles today is one of the leading contributors towards the globe’s rising carbon levels. So, switching to all-electric driverless vehicles is certainly going to help.
It’s not just the electric power that’s going to help lower vehicle emissions. Even cars running on petrol or diesel will benefit from smart fuel-saving technology. Businesses will also be able to cut their fleet emissions through technology which helps them to reduce transit time as well as fuel consumption. As well as helping the environment, this will also significantly reduce costs too.
Improvements in the courier industry
As online shopping has really taken over in recent years, it’s drastically increased the number of couriers on the road. However, technology has been developed to help minimise fuel consumption while also saving businesses and consumers money on parcel delivery.
Couriers now have all kinds of tech at their fingertips, including parcel tracking. This helps both the courier and the business or individual sending the parcel, as it allows the goods to be tracked wherever they are. This means consumers can either ensure they are going to be at home when the delivery is made, or they can leave instructions as to where to leave it. This in turn cuts down the number of wasted trips couriers need to make.
Smart home appliances
Appliances within the home have been given a huge environmentally-friendly makeover. These days, all new appliances are developed with high energy efficiency. They use a lot less power which is good for your wallet as well the planet.
To save water, many Bosch dishwashers feature ActiveWater, a technology which uses just 6 litres of water to wash up to 13 place settings. According to experts, if you were to wash the same amount by hand, it would use around 49 litres of water. So, that’s a staggering 12,000 litres of water you’ll be saving each year.
Reducing air pollution
One of the bigger issues technology is helping to tackle is air pollution. In China, a Green Horizon initiative is being rolled out by IMB. Air pollution is said to kill around 4,000 people in China every day.
The initiative will collect information about the pollution, including which areas have higher levels of pollution and how the weather may affect it. This information can then be used to help better regulate traffic and reduce pollution in the worst hit areas.
If the initiative is successful, it will not only protect the environment, but it could save a lot of lives too.
These are just some of the ways technology is helping the environment as well as helping us to save money. Some experts are dubious as to whether technology can help to save the planet, with many fearing it’s too late. However, as new technologies are developed, our impact on the environment is only set to lessen over time.
How are you using technology to protect the environment and save money?
