Have you ever wondered about colored diamonds and their prices? Are they more or less expensive than colorless diamonds? Well, some colored diamonds are actually cheaper than the norm, but there are so many more that have a way bigger price tag. So, what are the most expensive colored diamonds in the world
Somewhat Affordable – Grey & Brown
Many people like using brown and grey diamonds as fairly affordable alternatives to the colorless kind. What is interesting is that these colored diamonds are generally considered to be more beautiful than classic white ones, but more often than not, they will actually cost less. For instance, a fancy brown diamond will run you about $2,400 per carat and a fancy grey diamond comes closer to $3,300 per carat. While the price tags are still quite high, they are nothing compared to what is coming further down the list.
Medium Range – Orange & Yellow
Some of the colored diamonds that are more affordable than some of the options lower on the list include the orange and yellow diamonds. Now, a pure orange diamond can go for up to $100,000 per carat, but these are so rare that it is barely worth mentioning. The intensity and hue of the diamond, as well as the cut, will make a big difference here. To give you an idea, a deep yellow and orange diamond will run you about $9,500 per carat. Focusing on yellow diamonds, a 1-carat fancy yellow diamond will go for about $4,500 per carat, with a vivid yellow coming closer to $10,000.
Expensive – Blue, Green, Purple, & Pink
These diamonds are among some of the rarest in the world. While violet, pink, purple, green, and blue are not the number one most expensive colored diamonds in the world, they are still indeed very rare and valuable. These diamonds, especially the pink ones, go for tens of thousands of dollars per carat. For instance, a Fancy intense pink diamond can go for over $20,000 per carat, which is not even as expensive as the most expensive colored diamond in the world. It is shown that many people would rather go with a smaller colored diamond of this variety, rather than a larger clear diamond.
The Most Expensive – Red Diamonds
When it comes to colored diamonds and rarity, the red variety is indeed the rarest and thus the most expensive. These diamonds only come in a Fancy intensity and are thus extremely rare and valuable. Real red diamonds barely even exist. That is how rare they really are. The most expensive and the largest red diamond in the world is the Moussaieff Red, which comes in at 5.11 carats. There are some red diamonds which cost $30,000 per carat, while there are some which go for a whopping $500,000 for just 0.4 carats.
