Are you planning on travelling by car this summer? Whether you’re visiting a new part of the country, or you’re planning on road tripping your way throughout the summer months, taking your own vehicle gives you some much-needed freedom as well as more control on your trip.
From planning the route to all the stops in between, driving between attractions or even towing your own caravan or driving your RV between parks, it’s clear that the summer months and the open road go hand in hand.
If you’re planning on driving throughout your summer holiday, then plenty of planning is recommended. And to help, we’ve compiled a simple list of summer holiday driving tips to help keep you and your family safe.
Remain vigilant
Going away on holiday puts us into a relaxed state of mind and that’s often reflected in our driving. To keep you and your family safe, make sure you’re hyper-vigilant whilst driving through new areas, and unfamiliar cities and towns. Stick to the speed limit and be wary of other drivers. The last thing you want is to be caught up in a car accident. Click here for more info regarding personal injury law.
Give your car a check-up
Is your car fit for a long journey? When was the last time you pumped up the tires? Or checked the oil? Before you travel, do some basic maintenance and checks on your vehicle to ensure that it’s roadworthy and isn’t going to break down. If you’re unsure where to start, head to a local garage for advice.
Consider downloading maps
Using your phone for navigation is great and convenient. However, if you’re driving between states or different countries, you may be hit with huge data or roaming charges. To avoid a hefty bill when you return, download the maps you might need.
Think comfort
If you and your family are going to be in the car for some time, then comfort is key. When passengers are uncomfortable, they get irritable and that can make concentrating on the road difficult. Make sure everyone has enough room, toys, books and tech to keep the kids occupied, some good music to sing along to, snacks, water and things like blankets and travel pillows for comfort.
Plan your route
Planning your route will make everything much easier. You’ll be able to decide where you want to stop, whether or not you need to stay overnight, navigate toll roads, main or rural routes. Take some time to work out the details.
