When visiting London, you will always need to consider the best way to get around the city as it is enormous and there are many different options available to you. In today’s day and age, you should also think about the cleanest ways to get around and there are a few good options for green travel in the capital even if you need to get to the other side of the city.
Walking
The most obvious way to get around is walking as this is completely green, healthy and a fantastic way to explore the city and take in the sights. Obviously, this is only realistic for short distances and you may need to use a map on your phone to find your route.
Cycling
Cycling is another clean and healthy option and a way to travel slightly further. The excellent public bicycle hire scheme makes it easy to hire a bike and get to where you need to go and this has made a big difference to the pollution levels in London since being introduced 10 years ago. Cycling is a great way to get around but you need to know where you are going and be a confident cyclist if you plan on cycling on any of the busy roads in the center of the city.
Underground
The fantastic underground system is a quick, clean and easy way to travel both short and long distances and all areas of the capital are incredibly well connected so it should not be too hard to find a suitable route to your destination. Keep in mind that the underground can get extremely busy during peak hours so try to avoid these if possible as it can be stressful and you may have to queue to get on to the tube. You can also easily get the train in and out of London, such as with a train travelling from London Bridge to Redhill.
Hydrogen-Powered Buses
The capital will soon also have hydrogen-powered buses on the streets which will be a huge step in reducing emissions and making the air much cleaner in London. These double-decker buses will run on green hydrogen and will have only water exhaust emissions so they will be a clean way to access all areas of the city.
As you can see, there are lots of good options for clean and efficient ways to get around the capital. Whether you are making a short trip or travelling all the way across the city, there is a green form of transportation that you can use which will still be safe, comfortable and punctual so that you can get to where you need to go while doing your part to reduce environmental impact.
