As an amateur home re-decorator, I am always on the lookout for just the right recycled, extra-seating-solutions, eye-catching artwork, textured pillows or intriguing accessories — to add a bit of punch to some room in my home! Plus, it feels so good to transform someone else’s carefully-chosen ‘trash’ into a satisfying, homey ‘treasure’.
Local neighborhood thrift shops are my go-to sources for good quality, recycled home furnishings and accessories. And there’s always something new going on!
For example, to keep the experience interesting and thrift-shoppers hopping, The New York City Opera Thrift Shop on E. 23rd Street, regularly lures us in with tempting special shopping events.
Case in point, for most of March, the City Opera Thrift Shop was transformed into a splendid World Bazaar featuring high-quality furniture, artwork, antiques, home accessories, books, music, and more — priced at incredibly low prices in addition to ethnic and artisanal clothing and accessories.
It’s Cool to Thrift Shop for Good
The best thing about shopping there is that all proceeds support the creation and design of costumes for productions at New York City Opera at BAM and New York City Center. Not only do I shop there and save, but I also donate my unwanted items to the this charity each year so someone else can ‘reuse’ what I don’t need any more. It’s good for my wallet, good for the environment and good for the arts.
Look at the gems I found this on this trip, alone.
