I am bringing you some of my favorite green cleaning products that you can make from the comfort of your home. But first, let me explain why you should forego those ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ products in stores and go the extra mile of making your green cleaning products. The ease of making your natural products is a key factor. And yes, you will get the same sanitizing and cleaning results with honest cleaners as you do cleaners from the store.
The list of unsafe chemicals is growing each year. Therefore the number of cleaning products meeting health recommendations are becoming less and less each day. Another reason you should make your products is that they are inexpensive and not abrasive compared to name-brand cleaners.
Using eco-friendly cleaners will save you some green bucks and have your body thanking you for the overall green health. Green cleaning products will keep your home clean and safe for kids and pets. We believe that the process of eating healthy entails the cleaning products you wash your dishes, hands, kitchen surfaces with. Furthermore, using green cleaning after eating tasty boiled food maintains the culture of sustainability we aim to foster.
Ingredients in Green Cleaners
Most of the elements you need to prepare green cleaning products are already in your home. You can get the missing ingredients for making lots of natural cleaning products by parting with a few quid and little time. These are some ingredients you can use to prepare natural cleaning products you can use at home;
- Empty jars and containers
- Castile soap
- Distilled water
- Vinegar, Distilled white
- Baking soda
- Essential oils
Green Disinfectant and Sanitizer
- Two cups of hot water
- 10-20 drops of tea tree oil
- One and a half teaspoonful of baking soda
- White vinegar to half a cup full
Directions
- Put all the ingredients in a jug and stir thoroughly
- Place in a container or jar
You can now spray on the surfaces you want to clean and wipe away bacteria and viruses.
Bleach is dangerous for kids as it is a toxic chemical and can cause damage to pets too. This means it should be put away as a cleaning agent. Each year, a fair number of children are among the quarter of calls to the poison hotline due to bleach-related poisoning. Breathing gas produced by a combination of ammonia is potentially fatal (Chen, 2020). This Hippy Homemaker (2019) bleach alternative is one I love:
DIY Bleach Alternative
Ingredients
- Hydrogen peroxide in one and a half cups
- Three-quarters cup of lemon juice
- Less than a liter of distilled water
- 20 to 30 drops of essential oil from lemon or any other you choose
- An optional ingredient is a tablespoon of citric acid.
Directions
- Place all ingredients in a gallon jug, except the distilled water
- Mix thoroughly until all the citric acid dissolves
- Fill the jug with the citric acid
You can now use instead of bleach for cleaning around the home. This alternative does not have the dangers related to bleach and has all its bleaching powers. It is perfect as a cloth softener, removing tough stains, cleaning kitchen surfaces, and using for any other way you would need regular store-bought bleach. Before use, make sure you test a little before using it as a stain remover and make sure not to use it any different or anything you would not typically bleach.
You are now ready to make your own homemade natural products and start green living. Store-bought cleaners can be carcinogens to toxic chemicals, mild irritants, name-brand cleaners can drive the world problems.
