Halloween: Outdoor and Indoor Decorations Using Mother Nature

It’s fun to get excited about Halloween and dress your home for the festivities.

Yet, it’s downright scary to invest hard earned money on expensive decorations.

However, like a great Halloween costume, a dash of creativity goes a long way, and

if you’re especially inventive, only a small investment, or none at all, is needed.

Front Door Batcave

A first impression goes a long way. You want visitors to know you take Halloween seriously. Find bat templates online and trace them onto black construction paper. Cut out a whole bunch (Ask friends and family members for help!) and use painter’s tape to hang them above your front porch. Rather than tape, use clear string to create a midair effect. Remember, bats hang upside down while in a cave, so have some resting on the ceiling and others flying about.

Black Bird Bunch

You can never have more than enough spooky elements on your porch. To supplement the bats, introduce a host of black ravens. Again, find templates online and cut them out in black construction paper. Next, use cardboard mailing tubes to create a perch. You can use safe paints to make the tube black or another festive color. Cut holes at the ends of each tube and screw in hooks. Buy pieces of chain from your local arts and crafts or hardware store so you can perch the ravens on the colored, hanging tubes.

Creepy Spider Sac

Spiders are definitely creepy but a faux spider sac is downright scary! To produce the appearance of an actual spider sac, you’ll need a foam ball and a sheer, white nylon. Place the ball in the nylon leg and put plastic spiders on the inside and outside of the nylon with glue to create the appearance of a creepy sac dripping with arachnids.

Untraditional Halloween Tree

Traditionally, pine trees are used to celebrate Christmas, but you can find a real or fake tree to pay tribute to Halloween instead. Don the tree in personalized Christmas ornaments that relate more to Halloween than the December holiday. Rather than red and green lights, place black and orange lights around the tree. Use bats from the craft above to hang from the tree among other spooky decor you can find at a Halloween store or create on your own.

Psycho Scarecrow

Scarecrows are used to scare away birds but you can get the pulses of trick or treaters beating with a ghoulish version. Fill old clothes with hay and begin cutting holes in the cloth and dousing it with fake blood. Carve a scary face into a pumpkin to serve as the head. Of course, you’ll want to finish it off with an axe, knife, or other weapon to make the scarecrow look more menacing.

You don’t need a lot of money to load your indoor and outdoor area with appropriate decor. All you need is a bit of time, some creativity, and loads of excitement regarding this upcoming Halloween season.
