While doing some gardening or lawn maintenance, you may notice that your garden
lacks colour.
No, not on the ground.
Actually, many gardens now have hanging ornaments which contribute to a more
exquisite and fresh and in-touch-with-nature feeling while in the garden.
It is indeed a fresh idea, and, on top of all, if you are handy or creative enough, it will
cost you practically nothing.
Not to mention that the weed control will be easier as weeds rarely go so high.
All you need to do is look around your house for some useful objects and start doing
it yourself.
Here are some tips on what you may use.
#1 – Location, Location, Location
First, you need a location to place the planters.
The options are numerous.
If there are some posts near your garden gate, hang them from there.
Hang them from the terrace, from any wall, make your own post and place them there.
You may place such a planter literally everywhere above waist level.
#2 – Let It All Hang Out
For the hanging part you can use almost any material you can think of – string, wire,
chain, rope, and, if your knots are good, even shoe laces.
As long as you can attach somehow the material to the wall or surface you will hang it
from, do it.
#3 – Get Creative with Planters
For the planter itself there are almost limitless possibilities.
Only your imagination can limit you when choosing one.
At the very least, you can use a cut in half water bottle.
Fill it with soil, do some planting, and enjoy the view.
#4 – In the Bag
You can use bags.
Yes, literally bags of soil to fill with soil and plants.
Use different coloured bags.
Use backpacks or travel bags.
Use paper bags, even, there are no limits.
Just pick a type and colour you like and find it a place.
If the handles are long enough, you can even save yourself the price of string or chain.
Also, this is an eco-friendly option as you will reduce the amount of waste you will be throwing out.
#5 – A Glass Act
You can use glass jars.
Yes, even items so simple can be implemented in garden design.
Just pluck a hole at the bottom, fill and seed away.
This provides for a shiny garden on sunny days, especially if you combine it with a chain
for a hanger.
#6 – It’s a Shoe-In
Ever seen shoes used for planters?
Well, be imaginative and make some.
Instead of throwing them out, use the old shoes or boots you have no intention of ever
wearing or giving away.
You can have pairs of twin plants on both sides of the garden, or double hanging planters.
The variety of decorations is huge.
#7 – The Right Chemistry
Do you have an old chemistry set?
All the test tubes and graduates can be part of your new planter collection.
Spread them around the garden to have thematic ornaments.
#8 – Bucket Brigade
You can even use old buckets if you are short on ideas or items.
Everybody has buckets and you can use your spare ones for the new garden look.
Many gardeners will not recommend some of these options, but if you are crafty enough,
you can make anything work.
So once you are done with the garden maintenance, find some spots and start decorating.
