It’s incredible to think how home décor can have such a huge impact on your mood. Much like how de-cluttering your house can de-clutter your mind at the same time, the colours and style of your home can equally make a difference in the way that you feel.
We all want to feel warm and cosy in our bedrooms in winter, with darker, autumnal colours helping with that. But we want the complete opposite for summer, right? Summer’s all about feeling fresh, bright and breezy.
“Summer’s all about feeling fresh,
bright and breezy.
Here are 5 ways that you can get your
bedroom looking and feeling
summer ready.”
Don’t worry, you don’t need to fully re-decorate twice a year, every year. Instead, there are a number of little changes you can implement which will make a big difference. Here are just five ways that you can get your bedroom looking and feeling summer ready.
-
Have a clear out
There’s a reason why spring cleaning is called spring cleaning. It’s all about ridding your space of clutter and rubbish in order to feel rejuvenated and refreshed, ready for summer. You need to have a really good clear out and clean up of everything in your room. Bin any rubbish, sell anything worth selling and donate some to charity. For everything else, such as your winter wardrobe clothes, put them into storage elsewhere in your house or treat yourself to some extra bed storage from the likes of Divan Beds Centre.
-
Add a splash of colour
If your walls are painted a neutral colour, it’s easy to change your bedroom’s colour theme with the seasons. Adding a splash of bright colours such as yellow or coral can make your room feel summery in an instant. All you need to do is change things such as your bedding or curtains, or even just add brightly-coloured scatter cushions or a throw to liven things up a little bit.
-
Bring the outdoors in
If there’s one thing that everyone loves about summer, it’s being able to get outside and be amongst nature, be it in the garden, at the local park or at the seaside. Well, why not bring that summery feeling indoors by adding some flowers and greenery to your bedroom? Find yourself a beautiful vase and fill it with fragrant wildflowers to put on your windowsill or a side table. You could also put up a shelf and have some house plants and a pot of ivy hanging from it, for the ultimate botanical feel.
-
Let in the light
You want your bedroom to feel as bright and airy as it does outside, so let as much natural light into your room as possible. Change any dark, heavy curtains for lightweight voiles and make sure your door is propped open whenever you can, to let in the light from other areas as the sun moves around your house. Another way to increase the light in your room is to make sure you’ve got a nice big mirror up, to reflect natural light around the space. The same can be done with mirrored furniture too.
-
Take the weight off
Finally, it’s all well and good making changes to your bedroom that’ll be felt during the day, but, of course, you’ll be sleeping for the majority of your time spent in there. Give your bed a summer makeover by flipping your mattress, changing the colour scheme of your bedsheets and swapping your heavy-tog duvet for more lightweight covers and sheets. Make sure the materials that you opt for are breathable too. It’s claimed that most people tend to sleep better when cooler, so you want to do everything you can to prevent overheating on those warm summer nights.
Even the simplest of touches can make a huge difference when it comes to making your room feel ready for summer. Give one or more of the above a go and see how summery you feel afterwards.
