Many people use coconut oil as a source of healthy fats in their cooking, but did you know that coconut oil is great for your skin as well? It’s moisturizing and can be used in a plethora of ways to make affordable, natural skincare products at home! In fact, for the last 15 years, my organic, unrefined coconut oil has been my primary skin and hair care product — and I love the results!
Of course, most of you know that it’s important to keep skincare products as chemical-free as possible. Your skin is your largest organ, after all. Luckily, coconut oil can be used to make moisturizer, lip balm and even hair treatment.
For instance:
You can make facial moisturizer by adding the juice of 2 lemons and vitamin E oil.
You can also make an all-natural exfoliator just by adding baking soda to coconut oil.
You can even make an anti-aging night cream by adding rose essential oil and neroli essential oil to coconut oil.
There are endless combinations, just remember that these concoctions don’t have as long of a shelf-life as store-bought products. Many need to be refrigerated, and some need to be used immediately. Still others can be stored for a week or two. While this can be annoying, the payoff of having your skincare free of chemicals and additives is priceless.
