First time participating in this blogging party format. Seems like a very cool way to get the word out and meet other bloggers.

My site is about homesteading in a backyard and peri-urban area. I like to blog about gardening, permaculture, sustainability, healthy and conscious living, ecology, herbs and natural medicine, and cooking nutritionally-dense gluten-free foods.

This week, I posted about 10 ways that we can all make our gardens more sustainable. As more of us are seeking to be healthier and grow our own food, it’s important to think about all of the resources that we are using and not using as we do so.

Thanks for getting the word out about this, Should be fun!

Hi Sara,
As the old saying goes “Don’t believe the hype!” We have been bombarded by compelling vitamin marketing claims that make us believe that we need their supplements–and at an extremely high cost, by the way. I too, used to take calcium, in addition to many other supplements, because I feared that I was not getting enough calcium through my diet. After reading several cautionary articles, I stopped taking most supplements a couple of years ago. It horrifies me to think that calcium supplements may lead to kidney stones, prostate cancer or a hardening of the arteries leading to cardiovascular disease. Of course, this is not the first warning related to supplements and it won’t be the last. Thank you so much for sharing these wise and wonderful insights on the Healthy, Happy, Green & Natural Blog Hop! I appreciate it!

Hi Teri,
For the very reasons that are listed in your graphic above, I usually purchase organic fruits and vegetables, at least as much as possible. I refer to the Dirty Dozen list and only buy non-organic foods that are low in pesticide residue or I simply avoid them and buy something else to eat. I live in a city with fresh vendors on every other corner so fruits and vegetables are plentiful, but unfortunately all of their offerings are conventional, not organic. I sometimes see adults and children pick a piece of unwashed fruit and pop it in their mouths, obviously oblivious to the pesticide residues they are ingesting and I worry about them. I am so glad you shared this revealing post at the Healthy, Happy, Green & Natural Blog Hop! I appreciate it!

Hi Barb,
Happy Earth Week! It is so important to reduce our use of plastic. I have been trying to reduce my usage by carrying my own recycled shopping bags and keeping foldable totes in my purse most of the time so I can so no to plastic bags. I also save glass bottles to reuse in a variety of ways instead of using plastic. Glass containers are used for food storage instead of plastic as well. It’s a journey. I am so glad your family took on this challenge and that you shared your efforts with us at the Healthy, Happy, Green & Natural Blog Hop! I appreciate it!

Hi Lynell,
It’s great to meet another urban girl trying to live healthy, green and natural! Great job simplifying the problems and issues associated with GMOs. GMOs are so dangerous to our health and to the environment–and unfortunately very difficult to detect in some cases because they are not labelled–so I with organic, fresh, local produce and even skip most processed, “health foods” as well. We have a responsibility to fight for the ‘right to know’ what we are buying and eating so taking action is imperative for all of us who are concerned.
