Sweet, juicy, organic peaches are in abundance at my local farmer’s market.
And I’m over the moon about it!
What a pleasure they are eat and add to all kinds of tasty treats, especially fresh and
fabulous smoothie blends.
Did you know that peaches and nectarines are the same species, even though they
are regarded as different fruits, commercially?
In contrast to the characteristic fuzz on the skin of peaches, nectarines are smooth.
Peaches taste good and they are good for you.
Generally, a medium-sized peach contains:
*30 calories
*140 mg of potassium
* 8% of the daily value (DV) for vitamin C
*7 g of carbohydrate (6 g sugars and 1 g fibre)
*1 g of protein
As I discovered, peaches are highly perishable, and therefore should be consumed
or canned within two weeks of harvest.
They are best stored at temperatures of 0°C (32°F) and high-humidity, so refrigeration
is essential if you are not using them quickly.
I bought a bunch of organic peaches the other day and put them into my living room fruit
bowl–which I like to do because I love to look at all of my beautiful fruit–and they began
to rot within two days.
Fortunately I rescued them from my fruit bowl in time and made this healthy delicious
smoothie with other ingredients that I had on hand.
Whip up this peachy combination in your kitchen while they are still fresh and firm and
you’ll be glad you did !
Peaches and Almond Cream Smoothie
Serves 2
Ingredients
2 Organic Peaches
1 cup Organic Grapes
1 Organic Orange
2 Organic Bananas
A pinch of Cinammon
A dash of Vanilla
2 tbspns Almond Butter
1 cup Almond Milk
6 filtered water ice cubes
Directions
Add all of the ingredients to your blender (I use a VitaMix).
Blend on low then increase to a high speed until smooth.
Pour into a glass or mason jar.
I love to drink my light, sweet and creamy peach smoothie from a goblet.
It looks great and tastes great too!
Enjoy!
Peach Allergy Alert:
It is important to note that some people are allergic or sensitive to peaches.
Peach allergy or intolerance is a relatively common form of hypersensitivity to proteins contained
in peaches and related fruit (e.g. almonds).
Adverse reactions are related to the “freshness” of the fruit–peeled or canned fruit may be tolerated.
Reactions range from local symptoms (e.g. oral allergy syndrome, contact urticaria) to systemic
symptoms, including anaphylaxis (e.g. urticaria, angioedema, gastrointestinal and respiratory symptoms).

This peach smoothie sounds really delicious! Is it the almond butter that makes it creamy?
Hi Julia,
I am so delighted that you like this smoothie. The almond butter does make it rich and creamy. It is amazing and nutritious too.
I usually buy nectarines because I don’t like eating the fuzzy part of the peaches, but this is such a smart way to overcome my fuzz issues…haha.
Hi Robin,
Yes, I hope making a smoothie helps! Try it, I bet you’ll like it. Plus you can blend peaches with other fruit to make all kinds of yummy blends. Strawberries are great to mix them with too!
