Well known for her signature humor and deadpan style, radio personality, Robin Quivers,
is truly a wise, witty and lucky lady.
Long before she was faced with the need to battle cancer, her search for ways to
improve her diet and lose weight led her to transition to a plant-based, vegan diet.
So when cancer struck, Robin found that “going vegan gave her the strength and
health that she needed to battle cancer and win.”
Her story goes something like this:
In June 2012, Howard Stern’s well known sidekick, Robin revealed on the
radio show that she had undergone surgery to remove a growth in
her pelvic area.
At a later date, she shared more details about her battle with cancer, which
occurred in her uterine tissue.
Happily, due to Robin’s strength, vigor and lack of debilitating side effects
from chemotherapy–which she attributed to her plant-based diet–
she was able to handle her treatments well and even broadcast from her
home during recovery.
“Basically I was strong going in.
“When you consider that I went through chemo
and radiation and hardly had any side effects
–I saw other people and they were going
through the same thing I was, my
situation wasn’t complicated by other
illnesses, other medications.”
Lucky for us, Robin has shared her personal journey, lessons learned
the importance and impact of a plant-based diet plus more than 90
healthy and delicious plant-based recipes in her new memoir/cookbook.
The Vegucation of Robin
In “The Vegucation of Robin: How Real Food Saved My Life”,
Robin takes us inside her decision to shift to a healthier diet and lifestyle,
after recognizing how a diet high in fat and sugar had resulted in poor health
and obesity for so many of her relatives.
Robin’s story immediately resonated with me because I share a very similar
family history.
Generation after generation of my own relatives suffered from the pain and
heartbreak of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholestorol as well as crippling,
debilitating arthritis–illnesses that have been successfully prevented
and treated with strategic diet and lifestyle changes.
I feel that Robin’s inspiring journey to wellness is a must-read for all who want
to understand the power of a plant-based diet to help you”look good, feel
feel good, and have fun doing it”.
In fact, I plan to gift copies to many friends and family members.
Promotion for “The Vegucation” has been robust.
And fortunately for us, Robin has been popping up everywhere spreading
her valuable and much-needed messages.
Recently, on the Dr. Oz Show, Robin shared insights from “The Vegucation”
and discussed the link between cancer prevention and diet.
“Diet is a very important
cancer-fighting tool.
If you want your body to work the way
it’s supposed to, you need to give it
the nutrients it needs.
The solution isn’t in a pill–
it’s in what you eat.”
During an appearance at our local Barnes and Noble, Robin
was eloquent, entertaining and informative.
As a cancer survivor, she emphasized the important point that a
adding certain foods to your diet really make a difference
in fighting cancer.
“My plant-based diet was helping my body heal.
I couldn’t believe the difference I saw.
I’d never had such a dramatic shift in my health –
not when I was taking medication, not when I
was wearing a neck brace, and certainly not
when I was eating whatever I wanted.”
Robin shared that she is now cancer-free and back in the radio studio with Howard Stern,
who was very supportive during her ordeal.
“I feel fantastic!
I’ve been declared cancer-free for
about three or four months now.
It’s just a matter of still recovering
at home, past all that treatment that
kept me out of the studio for this long.
But I’ve been feeling really good.”
Now Robin is paying it forward and sharing what she has lived and learned
with the rest of us.

Hi Deborah
I reread your review a couple of times because I have been toying with the idea of a plant based diet for some time now. It is both encouraging and compelling to hear Robin’s story and to know that she is well. I will definitely take a look. Maybe someone will gift it to me.
Hi Patricia,
I am so pleased that you found Robin’s book interesting. Yes her story is very compelling and particulary relevant to many of us. I hope her revelations help other to transition to a healthier, more disease-preventive lifestyle. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it.
I saw Robin on a recent TV interview. I did not realize that she recovered from serious illness. Her story was amazing. Her story inspired me to move toward a vegetarian diet– at least a few days per week. Thanx for extra reminder with your post.
Hi Sylvia,
That’s why I love her story! She is everywoman and so down to earth. Her reasons for changing her diet resonate with so many of us. I wish you joy in your journey towards a vegetarian diet. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I sincerely appreciate your support.
I had heard about this book a while ago and just went over to Amazon to have a look at the reviews. She receives a lot of negative reviews which is a real shame. Anybody trying to turn their health around for the better should be applauded. It’s got to be better than eating junk!
Hi Robin,
Yes, I heard the same comment from vegan friend of mine. She was also surprised and dismayed. I am always happy to see someone improve their health and use their platform to inspire others. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate it.
I didn’t realize she went through that battle, or that she was a vegan. I definitely would love to read her book, and I think she’s awesome for sharing her story.
